Burnham 1st Cock Up

Removal Company Moves New Prime Minister Into the Wrong 10 Downing Street

Newport Family Return From Shopping to Find Cabinet Meeting in Their Living Room

NEWPORT, GWENT — Chaos erupted yesterday after newly appointed Prime Minister Andy Burnham accidentally gave a removal company the wrong address, resulting in the entire contents of Number 10 Downing Street being delivered to 10 Downing Street, Newport, Gwent.

The removal lorries reportedly arrived at 7:30 a.m., complete with security officers, official portraits, dispatch boxes, tea sets and several thousand boxes marked “VERY IMPORTANT – DO NOT LOSE.”

The bewildered removal foreman checked his paperwork.

“It definitely says Number 10 Downing Street.”

Nobody thought to ask which one.

Within two hours, neighbours watched in amazement as removal men carried antique furniture, red ministerial boxes and a lectern bearing the Prime Minister’s crest into what had, until that morning, been an ordinary terraced house.

The home’s owners, Gareth and Susan Morgan, returned from Tesco to discover strangers carrying their sofa onto the pavement.

“I thought we’d been burgled,” Gareth explained.

“Then I saw three men arguing about where to hang a portrait of Winston Churchill.”

Mrs Morgan was less impressed.

“They asked us if we wouldn’t mind sleeping in the shed because the Cabinet needed our spare bedroom.”

As the confusion grew, almost all of the Morgan family’s belongings were placed neatly along the pavement.

Their washing machine sat beside the recycling bin.

The television was balanced on a wheelie bin.

A collection of garden gnomes was accidentally classified as members of the House of Lords.

Phil McCavity, reporting for The Daily Scrotum, arrived to find journalists, police officers and curious neighbours all taking photographs.

“I’ve covered some strange stories,” Phil admitted.

“But this is the first time I’ve seen the Chancellor asking permission to use someone else’s downstairs toilet.”

Meanwhile, Andy Burnham reportedly wandered around the house looking slightly confused.

“This Number 10 seems… cosier than I imagined.”

“I don’t remember the official residence having a conservatory.”

His staff attempted to carry on regardless.

A Cabinet meeting was hastily held around the Morgan family’s dining table.

Unfortunately, halfway through discussions on the economy, Mrs Morgan interrupted proceedings.

“Whoever’s sitting in my chair can either move… or start paying the mortgage.”

Security officers also became suspicious after discovering next door’s Jack Russell refused to recognise any member of the Government.

The dog barked continuously whenever anyone mentioned the Budget.

Officials finally realised something was wrong when foreign ambassadors began arriving for meetings and asking why the official residence overlooked a kebab shop, a barber’s and “Dave’s Discount Carpets.”

One diplomat reportedly whispered,

“I thought Britain was facing economic challenges.”

“I didn’t realise it had downsized this much.”

The removal company quickly admitted the mistake.

“We deliver thousands of houses every year.”

“It’s not often we accidentally relocate the British Government.”

At the time of publication, the Morgan family were still waiting for their furniture to be carried back inside, while Andy Burnham had finally arrived at the correct Number 10.

He reportedly looked around the famous black front door before muttering:

“Next time… I’m using sat-nav.”
